This trial software will show you how FileMaker Pro Server is Client/Server file sharing for faster multiuser performance. With it you will share a sample database and witness the performance improvements gained by using FileMaker Pro Server.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO USE THIS TRIAL SOFTWARE
- A Macintosh (68020 processor or higher), or Power Macintosh computer
For best performance, a Power Macintosh, Power Macintosh Server or Macintosh Quadra A/V is recommended
- Minimum 4MB of memory for Macintosh and 8MB required for Power Macintosh
- Hard disk drive
- 1.44MB disk drive
- System 7.0 or higher
- Thread Manager (included with FileMaker Pro Server)
- FileMaker Pro 2.0 or 2.1. A trial version of FileMaker Pro 2.1 is included.
INSTALLING THIS TRIAL SOFTWARE
To install the FileMaker Pro Server trial software:
(1) Move to the fastest Macintosh available to you on the network.
(2) Insert the FileMaker Pro Server Trial disk.
(3) Double-click the “Double-Click To Install Server” Icon.
(4) Click on "Continue".
(5) Make sure the hard disk is selected as the destination for the trial
folder.
(6) Click on "Save".
(7) When you see the message "Installation Successful", click on "Quit".
After installation, you will have a FileMaker Pro Server Trial folder on your hard disk, containing:
• FileMaker Pro Server Trial application
• Contacts.FM file
• Thread Manager file
• Start Here file
If you are using versions of the operating system prior to 7.5:
- Move the Thread Manager system file from FileMaker Pro Server Trial folder to the Extensions folder in the System Folder of your hard disk.
If you drop the Thread Manager file onto the closed System Folder, it is placed in the Extensions folder automatically.
- Click OK in response to the message that appears.
If you are using System 7.5 or higher
- Drag Thread Manager into the trash can and choose Empty Trash from the Special Menu.
The Thread Manager comes with the operating system. You do not need the copy included here.
FileMaker Pro Server speeds up performance over the network. It opens FileMaker Pro databases and makes them available across the network for users to log into. To display, add or modify data or find and sort records, you will need FileMaker Pro 2.0 or 2.1 installed on a second Macintosh or Windows computer. You will see the best performance enhancements using FileMaker Pro 2.1v3, a trial version of which is included here.
If you already have FileMaker Pro 2.0 or 2.1 installed on a second computer, you are finished installing. Double-click the Start Here document, found in the FileMaker Pro Server Trial folder and follow the instructions.
Installing FileMaker Pro 2.1 Mac Trial
If you do not have FileMaker Pro 2.0 or 2.1 installed on a second computer or want to use FileMaker Pro 2.1v3, a trial version of FileMaker Pro 2.1v3 for Macintosh is included.
To install FileMaker Pro 2.1 Trial:
(1) move to a second Macintosh that meets the following system requirements:
Note: You will not see the performance enhancements available to you using FileMaker Pro Server if you install FileMaker Pro on the same computer as FileMaker Pro Server.
- Hard disk drive
- 1.44MB disk drive
- Minimum 1MB of memory, 2MB recommended (2MB required for System 7, 4MB Recommended)
- Apple System Software 6.0 or later.
(2) Insert the FileMaker Pro Server Trial disk
(3) Double-click the “Double-Click For FileMaker Pro” Icon.
(4) Click on "Continue".
(5) Make sure the hard disk is selected as the destination for the trial
folder.
(6) Click on "Save".
(7) When you see the message "Installation Successful", click on "Quit".
After installation, you should have a FileMaker Pro 2.1 Trial folder on your hard disk, containing:
• FileMaker Pro 2.1 Trial application
• FileMaker Network file
You've now installed the trial software!
- Return to the Macintosh on which you installed FileMaker Pro Server Trial.
- Open the FileMaker Pro Server Trial folder.
- Double-Click the Start Here document. Follow the instructions.
